Kokoro Japanese Restaurant, Gungahlin.

Kokoro is a pleasant restaurant situated near Coles in the Gungahlin shopping area.  It offers lunch specials and a variety of Japanese food and also is a place where you can try the Blooming Tea which is pretty to look at and nice to drink.

As both Lindsay and Alexi desired sushi, sashimi, takoyaki, etc., ta decision was made to try a banquet for two people and thus this blog entry will be a little different to the normal entries.

Random Recipe: Pasta with Spicy Olive Sauce from “Just 10 Minutes”

Please Note: if you do not like olives you will not like this recipe.

Just 10 Minutes is the cook book from which this random recipe was chosen.  It is a more recent addition to the book shelf and promises meals which can be prepared in 10 minutes, which can be helpful if you happen to have the ingredients available.

Black Fire (Fuego Nero)

Black Fire is a Mediterranean cuisine restaurant located in Mort Street, Braddon.  It is possibly the most expensive place we have reviewed for this blog.  We hesitated about including it as it is out of the brief with the cheapest main course costing $26.00.  However, even University students need to celebrate every so often and it was included in the random selection.  As it was drawn, it was time to brave the cost and see if the quality matched the price.

King O’Malley’s, Civic

As our final “Pub of the Month” we chose King O’Malley’s.  As with P. J. O’Reilly’s it was established in Canberra many years ago and has changed over the years.  It is located in City Walk.

This time, in light of the Monday to Thursday $12.00 Lunchtime Pizza specials, we agreed we had to order at least one pizza.

This cook book has, in my opinion, the easiest and most adaptable banana cake recipe, a wonderful apple slice, wonderful cinnamon tea cake, spice cake and more could be mentioned but hopefully you understand why this cook book is under no threat.

Random Recipes:  Select Kitchen Class Low Cholesterol Cookbook 1

Low Cholesterol

As you know, medical opinion on what is high or low cholesterol food has changed over the years with new discoveries being made.  The reason I mention this is we questioned some of these recipes as they seem to disagree with the current thinking of what causes cholesterol.

In other words, the cook book is out of date.  A good choice for being removed from the collection and taking some weight off the bendy shelf.  (Not that this cook book weighs much.)

As an added bonus this time the recipe was followed, (mostly) with few substitutions as it seemed like a good idea and might also permit the recipes prove if they were worth reusing. The front cover photo was very tempting and then we decided that we wanted more than a potato salad so two recipes from this book were attempted.
